Of all the vitamins that you could supplement with, Vitamin D3 is the most essential.  This does not diminish the importance of the other vitamins, but Vitamin D is the only one that we cannot possibly get a sufficient amount from our diet, and it is probably the most deficient vitamin in America.  Recent research estimates that upwards of 80% of people are deficient in Vitamin D, and those are by very modest standards. (1)   Balance time between non-physical activity like watching TV, playing video games and being on the computer with exercise or other forms of physical activity.

(2)   Make exercise fun. Play creative games that involve physical challenges.

(3)   Use compound movements, dynamic ranges of motion and functional exercises. (As opposed to exercise machines that are set to a fixed range of motion).

(4)   Learn to incorporate activity into your family lifestyle.

(5)   Lead by example, if the parent or guardian is engaged in an active lifestyle it makes it much easier for the child to be influenced by exposure.
